In the frame of the environmental monitoring, aircraft is useful in sampling air quality since it is able to measure not only vertical profiles, but also to take samples across large distances. More specifically, EREL has adapted in the plane high performance scientific equipment for the sampling and analysis of specific air pollutants i.e. greenhouse gases (CH4, CO2), O3, PM, SO2, NOx. Furthermore, chemical detector modules for the determination of toxic industrial chemicals etc. have been also installed. |

The specially designed and appropriately equipped aircraft contributes to quickly monitor extended natural disasters and phenomena in order to directly evaluate quantitatively and qualitatively the existing situation.
Multi-parametric recording and analysis of environmental impact (heat release, airborne contamination, oil spills, chemical water pollution and other) from manmade activities are carried out by combining appropriate aerial remote sensing sensors (IR Camera, SWIR, Multispectral), aerial gas analyzers and photogrammetric camera.
Special remote sensing and photogrammetry aerial sensors are used in order to monitor ecosystem changes for marine and lake areas. Thus, flora and fauna can be recorded and an early detection of environmental irregularities can be performed.
